Difference between the standard recessed and surface-mounted meter boxes?

Firstly, let's have a look at the type of electrical metering boxes that we provide:

  • Standard Recessed Electrical Metering Box: This Recessed Electrical Metering Box houses any domestic electric meter and gets installed within the cavity walls of buildings or pillar enclosures. It is placed directly into the wall, so it won't protrude or cause any obstructions. This type of metering box is usually installed in a new build or as part of an extension since it requires a cavity within the wall.

  • Surface Mounted Electrical Metering Box: This type of electrical meter box is used mainly for conversions where it is inappropriate to build into the wall, such as in older buildings without a cavity wall. You'll need a metering box that protrudes slightly out of the wall (about 250mm), known as a surface-mounted installation. Be careful to place your meter box where it will not cause obstruction or be easily damaged.
